As part of "Youth Matters" the Government has given Torbay £155,000 to "improve the provision of positive activities for young people" - this is the Youth Opportunity and Capital Fund.
Toffy Grant is for any young people aged 13 - 19 (13 - 25 if the young people have special needs) from all over Torbay - if they are in youth groups, clubs or even just a group of mates.
You can apply for a range of activities such as sport, music, art, volunteering, cultural and fun things, or support for a particular activity, capital items-equipment or facilities.
For example, young people have successfully applied for 'teen shelters', rent for premises, or even a climbing wall. Minibuses and other mobile provision have also been funded.
Jordan, Rhonny, Shex, Alex, Tim and Micky are the TOFFY panel for 2009/10. The panels aim is to improve things to do for young people in Torbay through funding youth groups who are taking part in new activities and their motto is 'from young people for young people'.
Application packs are available from the Youth Service on 01803 206481 or visit the My-Bay Toffy page to download an application form

Who can apply for the money?
Any young people aged 13 - 19 (13 - 25 if the young people have special needs) from all over Torbay - if they are in youth groups, clubs or even just a group of mates.
Applications must be made by young people who have good ideas for more things to do and places to go, but need the funding to do so. We expect, however, that young people will need the support of an organisation or a local adult to be able to access the funding. For example, it may be through an existing group at school or youth group, or someone you know in your local community.
What kind of things can the money be spent on?
- Activities such as sport, music, art, volunteering, cultural and fun things, or support for a particular activity
- Capital items-equipment or facilities. For example, young people have successfully applied for 'teen shelters', rent for premises, or even a climbing wall. Minibuses and other mobile provision have also been funded.
What are the panel looking for?
- Those from new groups which will provide additional things to do or places to go, especially if they serve disadvantaged groups or deprived areas
- Those benefiting a number of young people, i.e. not just a small group but have a wider benefit
- New ideas which are led by young people themselves
- Those projects demonstrating they will support young people in being healthy, staying safe, enjoying and achieving, achieving economic wellbeing or making a positive contribution (the five outcomes of Every Child Matters)
Can individuals apply too?
Yes - there is a separate form for this. Individual applications could be for specific training or activities which would benefit them and others.
Applications should demonstrate:
- Why the individual would benefit, and how the individual is disadvantaged
- What the benefit will be and if there is a wider benefit to the community
- The name of the course provider
