Brixham services located under one roof

PR3403    23/04/2012

Brixham residents will be able to access council services under one roof from next month (Wednesday 30 May) as the popular Connections 'customer service' team move into Brixham Library.

The customer service team is moving from Brixham Town Hall to the ground floor of the library, situated directly behind.

The centre is for face-to-face interviews with the public regarding all council services, so anyone shopping in Brixham will find it easy to call into the centre to make enquiries. It is also just a short walk from the local car park and bus stop in the town square.

The move will also save Torbay Council vital funds as the space within the Town Hall would have to be leased once it has been transferred to Brixham Town Council.

People in the area will be able to ask about housing benefits, Council Tax benefits, concessionary travel, refuse collection and wheeled bins, street lighting and cleansing and environmental health problems to name just a few.

Cllr Ken Pritchard, Executive Lead for Business Planning and Governance, said: "It makes sense to move the Connections team into what is under-utilised space within a public building. It not only saves the authority money but creates a one stop shop facility for local residents.

"Our staff provide an award winning service both over the phone and face to face and will continue to do so in their new premises."

Cllr Jeanette Richards, Executive Lead for Tourism and Environment, added: "I am sure that the relocation will prove to be as popular with Brixham residents as in Paignton where Connections was relocated to the library in 2010.

"The team provide a vital service to local residents and we have planned the move carefully to ensure that any disruption to the service is kept to a minimum."

The Connections office will close, as normal, at 4pm on Monday 28 May. The move will take place on Tuesday 29 May to ensure that the team are available in their new premises from 9am on Wednesday 30 May.

The Connections team will be available from 9am until 4pm Monday to Friday. The opening times for the library are:

  • Monday: 9.30am - 5pm
  • Tuesday: 9.30am - 7pm
  • Wednesday: 9.30 - 1pm
  • Thursday: 9.30 - 7pm
  • Friday: 9.30am - 7pm
  • Saturday: 9.30am - 1pm
