What provisions does the Torbay Youth Service have to offer our young people?
Torbay Youth Service offers a number of fixed location and mobile provisions for young people all across Torbay.
Torquay
Chill’d Out is a youth group in Torquay for young people aged 11-19 that is open several nights (and days) of the week. It offers a range of structured activities such as a music group as well as a drop in service where young people can meet new people and have fun or simply go along for some help and advice.
There are several other groups in Torquay held at various public venues such as the Acorn Centre at Barton Downs, The Windmill Centre in Hele Village. Plainmoor have the use of Westlands School and the church on St. Marychurch Road where they conduct a whole range of activities such as football and arts & crafts.
Paignton
There are many different activities for our young people on most nights of the week in Paignton. For example, the QED Youth Group aimed at children aged 12-19 meet every Wednesday from 18.30 – 20.30. The community centre opens up for the young people to participate in games, outdoor activities and organised trips including a monthly visit to the Apollo Cinema.
One of Paignton's most popular activities are the Street Dancing and DJ Workshops where young people can go along and simply have fun and at the same time develop new and interesting skills to take with them wherever they go.
There are also a number of street and outdoor provisions to cater for those of whom prefer to be outside such as the Games Bus which often pulls up on Paignton Seafront in the warmer months of the year where they conduct various games and other activities for young people of all ages to get involved in. This bus doesn’t just stop there it makes scheduled stops to a few locations in Paignton bringing the fun right to your door!
The Box is another great mobile service that provides a range of workshops and activities for young people across Torbay and various scheduled locations.
The most popular of all things on offer in Paignton is R Nite held at the Torbay Leisure Centre at Clennon Valley. Every Saturday the Youth Service takes control of this centre and turns it into a place where young people can come and have fun. It costs just £1 and the young people have access to all of the facilities within the complex aside from the swimming pool (though we are working on that par!).
Brixham
Brixham is a very small traditional fishing town with a great sense of community and a lot of history. There is a very wide range of activities for young people most of which were thought of by young people. Nearly all of the events are held at the Brixham YES (Youth Enquiry Service) on Bolton Street near the strand. Things on offer here range from the Youth Café to the annual Santa’s Grotto which always has a spectacular turnout.
For more information relating to any of the above events or activities and much more visit My Bay.
You can also find out where they are and who to contact to get involved, so what are you waiting for?
